An Elastic IP address is a public IP address that can be dynamically assigned to an Amazon Web Services (AWS) account. An AWS account can have multiple Elastic IP addresses associated with it, but only one EIP can be assigned to any given instance at any given time. When an instance is stopped and started, the EIP will remain associated with the instance.

After releasing an Elastic IP address, it’s released to the public IPv4 address space and no longer associated with your account.

In the navigation pane, choose Addresses and select the check box next to the Elastic IP address that you want to release. Choose Actions, Release Address, and confirm when prompted.
